What is HHCPO? Origin, effect and legal framework
It is obvious that the universe of neocannabinoids is constantly growing! In fact, synthetic cannabinoids are becoming more and more important.
Today we would like to introduce you to HHCPO, a cannabinoid that has already delighted many consumers and should not be missing from your range!
HHCPO: What is acetylated HHCP?
HHCPO, not to be confused with THCPO, is one of the HHC derivatives. This cannabinoid has psychotropic effects.
Where does HHCPO come from?
As usual, new trends come from the United States. In the US, it is common practice to alter the chemical structure of cannabinoids.
In short, HHCPO is made by slightly changing the chemical structure of HHCP. HHCP, in turn, is made from an HHC molecule extracted from CBD. We'll spare you the technical details.
Importantly, the production of HHCPO-infused products, like all cannabinoid or neocannabinoid-based products, begins with the production of distillate. This distillate is then added to conventional products such as resin and e-liquid, or used to infuse flowers through an infusion process.
Differences between HHC, HHCP and HHCPO
It makes sense to expand your neocannabinoid offerings with products containing HHCPO. It's even better to explain to your customers how HHCPO differs from HHCP and HHC.
HHC:
- Discovery: 1944
- Composition: THC + 2 hydrogen atoms
- Origin: Plant (cannabis seeds and pollen)
- Psychotropic effects: Mild, less strong than THC.
HHCP:
- Discovery: 2021
- Composition: HHC + 2 carbon atoms
- Origin: Semi-synthetic
- Psychotropic effects: Stronger than HHC.
HHCPO:
- Discovery: 2022
- Composition: Acetylated HHCP
- Origin: Semi-synthetic
- Psychotropic effects: As strong as HHCP, but the effects last longer.
The effects of HHCPO
So far, there are only opinions and feedback from consumers to get an idea of its effects. Although HHCPO is approved for sale, it has not been subjected to any study. There is no serious data on its effects.
Does it have therapeutic or wellness properties?
The therapeutic potential of a cannabinoid depends on its affinity to our endocannabinoid system and receptors.
HHCPO appears to behave similarly to THC due to its chemical structure and may have comparable properties. It may even be more effective than THC due to a better affinity to the endocannabinoid system and higher bioavailability.
However, this is speculation and we recommend not making any claims about potential beneficial properties of HHCPO. This neocannabinoid was specifically developed to diversify recreational products and is likely to attract interest from consumers looking for wellness products.
What are the effects of consuming HHCPO?
HHCPO potentially benefits from a high affinity for our CB1 receptors, which can trigger psychotropic effects such as mood swings and sensory hallucinations.
It is important to note that the effects of psychotropic substances vary depending on the person and the context. Most people report relaxing effects, but other effects may also occur.
How strong are its psychotropic effects?
HHCP and HHCPO have a similar chemical structure, which makes it possible to predict their effect and strength.
In terms of potency, HHCP surpasses HHC and even THC with 33 times the affinity for CB1. Therefore, the psychotropic effects of HHCPO are likely to be just as potent as those of HHCP. However, HHCPO has an additional acetyl group that could result in a longer duration of effects. Therefore, products typically contain less than 5% HHCPO.
Warning to customers: HHCPO should not be consumed in the middle of the day!
Side effects of HHCPO
There is no concrete data, but due to the similarity to THC, similar side effects are to be expected, such as red eyes, dry mouth, cravings, etc. In some cases, paranoia, panic attacks and dizziness could also occur.
Due to its psychotropic nature, HHCPO products are not suitable for minors, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people undergoing psychiatric treatment.
Selling and buying HHCPO products in Germany
Neocannabinoids such as HHCPO are taking up more and more space in the catalogs of CBD shops. The offer of legal psychotropic products is a gold mine that should be exploited!
However, you should not act hastily. There are a few things you should consider.
Legal framework
HHCPO is not regulated by the authorities. The sale, purchase and consumption are not prohibited.
For consumers, this means that HHCPO is just as legal as other cannabinoids.
The unclear legal situation and the lack of experience and data on the effects require extreme caution. Customers should be clearly informed that HHCPO is a new molecule whose effects have not yet been researched.
Which products?
Given the recreational nature of HHCPO, we offer products that resonate with cannabis consumers, such as resin and flowers.
We also have cartridges for vapes that contain other cannabinoids in addition to HHCPO to complement each other's effects.
Updated 26.06.2024: As part of the fifth regulation amending the appendix to the New Psychoactive Substances Act, some cannabinoids have been banned in Germany. These include THC-PO, THC-P, THCV, HHC and all associated derivatives (HHC-O, HHC-P, HHC-PO...). The bans are limited to the production and sale of cannabinoids. The consumption and possession of cannabinoids is still legal. We are just not allowed to sell them to you.
As a replacement, FlowPow offers 10-OH-HHC and 10-OH-HHCP Products are available for sale that have the same psychoactive effect and are currently not regulated in Germany.
